The Prophetic Week in Review
Week ending 11/14/1998
Signs in the Heavens
On Nov. 17,1998, the earth will pass into a speeding trail of debris left by comet Temple-Tuttle. The particles are expected to sand blast more than 600 communication, navigation and spy satellites. What is unknown is what havoc will be done. Normally 10 to 15 meteors per hour recorded during the annual Leonid meteor shower. On November 17 it is estimated that 200 to 5,000 meteors could intersect earth's orbit traveling 100 times faster than a bullet. Colonel Simon Warden, deputy for space dominance at US Air Force Headquarters at the Pentagon said: "This is the first time that all the world's satellites in space have been confronted with a threat of this type"
Prophetic Possibilities: If the satellites responsible for ICBM targeting are knocked out, the USA would be vulnerable to first strike by the Russians whose satellites do not depend on total satellite control. For Russia and the radical Muslim nations to move on Israel, the USA must first be "distracted" See the Ezekiel 38 analysis on this web site. "And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD." (Eze 39:6)
In addition, this may well qualify as one of the many "signs in the heavens" we have be observing over the last couple of years -- such as foreseen by Joel that immediately proceeds the Day of the Lord. ("And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD." (Joel 2:30-31)
"And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind". (Revelation 6:13)
The Battle for Jerusalem
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he is suspending an Israeli troop pullback in the West Bank -- scheduled for later this week -- until the Palestinians drop plans to declare independence in May. The Palestinians accused Netanyahu of making excuses to get out of his commitments. Yasser Arafat, however, renewed a pledge to declare statehood in May, "Our guns are ready to defend the rights of the Palestinians in [eastern] Jerusalem, as the future capital of a Palestinian state….our land and we are regaining this holy land inch by inch."
However, Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that the status of Jerusalem is non negotiable setting the stage for the ultimate confrontation: "And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it." (Zech 12:3)
The Bible is clear, Jerusalem will become a burden for the whole world and ALL the nations of the world will gather against it. The "final status talks" on Jerusalem may be what was foreseen by Zechariah. It is also interesting that during the latest united States effort to secure peace, "Peace and Security" was of paramount importance to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and those security guarantees that have not yet been satisfied to Netanyahu's satisfaction.
When that troubled peace and security is achieved, then sudden destruction shall come upon them. "For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape." (1 Thes 5:3)
Death by famine, disease and potentially by wild animals
More than a million people face severe food shortages in the Horn of Africa after both severe drought and epic flooding. The worst-hit area is southern Somalia, where late rains threaten to ruin harvests after disastrous floods last year, putting some 750,000 people at risk.
The United Nations Children's Fund's director for East Asia and the Pacific, Kul Gautam said Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia have the highest rates of AIDS and H.I.V. cases in the region and could face huge AIDS epidemics unless effective programs are carried out to stem the disease,
Villagers in Thailand have been woken at night by whole families of monkeys turning over their kitchens, while diners have seen their food stolen from their plates. Following drought, there has been no extra rice for the macaque monkeys, which had grown dependent on regular supplies from villagers. As a result, a thousand hungry monkeys have gone on the rampage through houses, shops and restaurants in northern Thailand.
Russian Communist Calls for Quotas on Jews
Albert Makashov, a Communist member of parliament called for quotas on the number of Jews in Russia. Makashov's blatantly antisemetic remarks were not repudiated by the Communists and their leader, Gennady Zyuganov. Instead, Zyuganov responded by attacking the news media and Russia's leading business tycoons, many of whom are Jews.
Because of the ecomomic turmoil that followed the government's Aug.17 devaluation of the ruble, virulent antisemitism has resurfaced in a bitter round of ethnic scapegoating that reflects Russia's economic hardships. Part of the controversy comes from the Communists' antipathy toward a group of politically powerful business magnates who have come to prominence in recent years and who control two of Russia's biggest television stations.
"Therefore behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "that it shall no more be said, 'The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,' "but, 'The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.' For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers. "Behold, I will send for many fishermen," says the LORD, "and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks." (Jer 16:14-16)
After the "fall" of Communism, the fishermen (evangelists) rushed into Russia. Slowly the door has been closing. They time of "the hunters" maybe getting very close as Russia descends into anarchy. If history is any teacher, the Jews will be made the scapegoat.
Remember Jesus is returning for a Holy and Spotless Bride.
